These days it's hard to conceive our living without computers. We use them at work and for amusement. Communication with people, listening to music, watching video films, playing games and numerous other operations are represented by computers. Computers are strongly linked to computer data. Info is usually saved to the hard disk of the PC, but it's highly advised to have a copy of all the important information on other recording medium. It will provide the safety of these data in case of problems with the hard disk. There are a few types of recording media. The most widespread amid them are magnetic tapes, hard disk, digital video and compact disks and flash memory discs. All these media have their own advantages and disadvantages. It is up to you to take a decision what recording medium to choose so as to store your backup info. Magnetic tape used to represent the most widespread medium for data storage. It represents an access medium, so the access time is rather slower than in case you use hard disk. But at the same time continuous writing and reading are usually considerably faster. With the invention of new recording mediums magnetic tapes have become obsolete, but nevertheless they are in use in special situations, since they represent the most reliable data media. One more type of data storage media is optical disk backup system, generally called CDs and DVDs. This system is effective and easy in use. A significant advantage of optical discs is that info can be stored to and read from these discs almost on any PC with a typical CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Flash memory disk backup system, including USB, SmartMedia, Memory Stick and others, represents the following move of backup data storage development. These devices are portable, easy to apply and able to store a great amount of info. All the contemporary computers possess facilities to restore info from such disks. Their only minus is high cost in comparison to floppy or optical disks. But at the same time flash disc system is the most reliable and convenient data storage medium. |
